Dental Cleanings & Deep Cleanings
Healthy teeth are crucial to a healthy lifestyle.
Drs. Jessica and Christopher Sinick and the team at Sinick Family Dental know that oral health is not separate from overall health. For instance, if your teeth are healthy, you can eat healthier foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
One of the most important ways to maintain a healthy mouth is to get regular dental cleanings.
It’s important to understand that plaque begins to form on your teeth within a few hours after leaving the dental office. Even if you do a great job brushing and flossing, the plaque that builds up will mineralize and become calculus (tartar). It is impossible for you to remove tartar without special dental instruments.
Benefits of a Dental Cleaning
During a dental cleaning, the team at Sinick Family Dental will remove the plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth since your last cleaning. There is bacteria in the plaque and calculus on your teeth. This bacteria can lead to bone loss around your teeth and tooth decay. The bacteria can also get into your bloodstream and cause other complications in the rest of your body, including heart problems.
While you are at your cleaning, we can offer tips and techniques to help you keep your teeth clean in between professional cleanings. There are a lot of different products that are made to help. Each time you come in, we will evaluate your oral health and offer a personalized plan to keep you on the right track.
Deep Cleanings (Scaling and Root Planing)
If it has been a long time since you have had your teeth cleaned or if you have had periodontal disease before, you may need to have a deep cleaning.
Deep pockets around your teeth make it impossible for you to clean them on your own. The only way to remove the built-up bacteria and calculus is a deep cleaning at our Medina office.
The deep cleaning process is similar to a normal cleaning; however, you may need to be numb so that you are comfortable during the procedure. It will take more time to complete this procedure, as well. After a deep cleaning, we will bring you back to evaluate how your gums have responded to the treatment. Depending on your situation, we may recommend more than two cleanings a year.
